  • Prof. Lipp studied economics and modern history at the universities of Cambridge and Saarbrucken and received his doctorate in 1979.
  • He began his career in 1979 as the general secretary of the German Council of Economic Experts (“Council of the Five Wise Men”).
  • In 1984, Prof. Lipp was appointed as a professor of international finance at the Johann-Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main.
  • In 1987, Prof. Lipp joined Dresdner Bank in Frankfurt/Main, where he started as the Chief Economist and was then the Chief Representative for the international financing business.
  • He was a member of the Managing Board of Dresdner Bank from 1995 through 2000.
  • Prof. Lipp has been the Managing Partner at ODEWALD & COMPAGNIE Gesellschaft für Beteiligungen mbH in Berlin since the year 2000.


In May 2003, Prof. Lipp was elected to the Supervisory Board of GRENKE AG and confirmed in May 2008, in May 2013 and in May 2018, each for a further five years.

He has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board since May 2005.
